Hardware Anforderung für Open Sim

Hallo Leute,
trotz Suche, habe ich bisher nirgends die Anforderungen an die Hardware für einen Opensim Server bzw für einen Gridserver gefunden.

Als Betriebsystem eigenet sich ja Linux bzw Windows. Letzteres offensichtlich nur in den 32 bit varianten. Was ja wegen der begrenzten Speichergröße nicht so klasse ist.

Also ich hab nen 3,2 Ghz AMD Rechner mit 1024 DDR RAM. Ich lasse es in VMWare in einem XP System laufen da ich Win2k verwende. Der VMWare habe ich gerade mal 128 MB RAM zugewiesen. Dabei habe ich keinerlei Probleme beim Betrieb festgestellt. Deshalb kann ich mir gut vorstellen das auf einem XP System OHNE VMWare der Server und der Client erst recht parallel gut laufen.

For a little background in planning a server:

Wright Plaza and Lbsa Plaza both run on a 1.2Ghz dual-core Pentium with 1Gbyte RAM. They both run on different mono instances in two different directories. The server is on a 100mbps connection in a colo in San Diego.

Yang and the 'moons' (SouthWest of Wright Plaza) are a total of 5 regions on a 3.4Ghz dual-core Pentium with 3Gbyte RAM. Yang runs on one mono instance and the moons (4 regions) run on a different mono instance. The server is running at my home in Irvine, CA and talks across the DSL.

Celt is running on a VPS in Durham, UK leased from bodhost.com. It has a 1.2Ghz CPU with 256Mbyte RAM and no swap. It represents the smallest server I was able to lease. It costs about US$30/month for the lease and has a 100mbps network connection.

I hope this helps bound the characteristics of servers for use with OpenSim. I have tried to use a series of different servers in setting up these regions for our testing on OSGrid.

1. Plan your project and order dedicated server, this depends on your budget I would suggest finding the best deal possible from a big data center. I chose a server from OVH.com if you are a France or UK resident I think you would be hard pressed to find a better deal (sorry to sound like an ad) the offer I currently have is the START 100M LARGE ++ which is total overkill for my current needs. But it is still a deal at 68EU/mo with tax. I have comfortably run 4 regions with 20 concurrent users with this set up. Remember OpenSim is modular so you can always add or scale your grid.
2. When you get your server, which may vary from hours to weeks depending on the company, you should verify some key things to avoid problems later. I chose Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon as my OS and it was installed when the server was put online. Great! Yes? .. no the default root partition was only 3 gigs.. I reinstalled the OS through the web interface provided by OVH and partitioned my 750 Gig drive, giving almost half to the root partition (this is not the same as the root user.. this is the directory structure ‘/’ under which all the program files are stored) I would suggest a minimum of 20 gigs for the root partition.
